Canon: Ratchet and Clank
Character: Alister Azimuth
Timeline: A Crack in Time, the good/canon ending, post-death.
Personality:
General Alister Azimuth had been a mischievous child at one point in his life, having grown up the way he had. And even in his elder years, this hasn't changed. Once you really break through the 'hardened general' guise, one can see that Alister can be a friendly, outgoing companion. While he might not be as spry as he had been in his younger years, it's just in his nature to go out and have a good time, making an adventure out of everything, even unintentionally.

But this isn't without faults, as he's had a lot happen in his long life.

Let's start at the root.

Yes, he is a strong, loyal companion to have most of the time. Although, at the same time, Alister can be... paranoid, and a little defensive. In fact, there are quite a few times where he shifts between 'best pal' and 'maybe I should watch my tongue'. Because you don't talk about his personal life - or more so, the events on Fastoon. He's watched his entire species fall from his own fault, assumed his best friend's son to be dead and watched said friend's death. On the run for a good twenty years, Alister's solitude and guilt ate away at him in that time, but he's also made a resolution to himself - nobody would cross him like that ever again.

And he certainly wouldn't allow a disaster like that to happen again. No matter what.

Friends are finicky with the General, especially now. He might not be the easiest person to approach or talk to - depending on the situation, you might just end up with a bomb in your face and accusations about being a spy - but that can be worked around, talking him down, getting to know him, he'll warm up to you. Or maybe it'll just make him worse. It depends on the situation in itself.

At heart, Alister is a rebel. He's labeled as one, and he'll act like one, evading Nefarious' forces for as long as he's had, and taking them out with the needed brutality. Stubborn as a brick wall and defiant, he'll stand his ground, physically and metaphorically, fighting for what he thinks is right. And at times, it's only what he thinks is right. This could have a very skewed and disjointed view, and even insane at times. Whatever it takes to get the job done, and Alister takes his job very seriously.

Speaking of 'jobs', Alister finds time to focus his mind with projects on the side, making him something of a workaholic. Sometimes the work and the exercise intertwine with each other, causing him to keep fit because of it. Keeping his base secure, getting out and causing trouble while also trying to learn as much as possible for anything he needs to do. He spent twenty years doing so, and these habits won't be broken easily.

Barring the negatives, Alister can also be extremely protective of those he considers his kin, even at the risk of his own well-being. When he has something to protect, a better purpose than he'd been living, he takes it in. Encompasses it, holds it to his being because that is what he needs to do. This, in turn, makes him a little obsessive, though it works in favour when the situation calls for it. Everything he uses, he makes himself, because who other to trust with Lombax technology than a Lombax itself, right?

Background: Alister's life started out as simple as it could have been - though not without some complications from time to time due to the Great War - being raised on one of the most technologically advanced planets in the galaxy. This planet was Fastoon, and the pinnacle of most scientific and mechanical developments in the Polaris Galaxy. The Lombaxes themselves were both respected and feared for this, and they'd only continued to grow.

For the moment, his life had started off slow. As a child, he quickly became good friends with another Lombax named Kaden, oftentimes sneaking off-world together to go hoverbooting in the canyons on Lumos, or to the Battleplex, where Kaden had become the first Lombax to ever win an Agorian tournament. It all started off pretty simple, until Alister had been recruited into the Lombax Praetorian Guard, and eventually, the Center for Advanced Lombax Research. In his time in the Guard, he had been promoted to General soon enough, and became one of a small group of Elders to oversee the planet itself.

As Elder, Alister also had access to the database of all Lombax technology - this is where his downfall begins. Over time, an unknown inventor had arrived on Fastoon, with promises of better technology and advances in their research, to help repair the galaxy after the Great War. Convinced that the inventor's intentions were pure, he'd granted him access to that database, and all of their weaponry, while ignoring Kaden's warnings and skepticism. By doing so, Tachyon, the 'inventor', had turned on the whole planet, wiping out entire cities and destroying most of the Lombax race. The survivors had bunked themselves in the Court of Azimuth, using a device known as the Dimensionator to flee to another dimension, but leaving Alister behind. For his error, Alister had been exiled away from the new dimension, and any affiliation with the remaining Lombaxes, hiding out on a backwater, junkyard planet for roughly twenty years.

In this time, his decline only worsened. He'd blamed himself for what had happened to his species, his best friend, Tachyon's betrayal - all of it. He remained alone, struggling to compile theories and information about ways to get the Lombaxes back, to reverse the damage. From his knowledge as an Elder, and simply from hear-say in the rest of the galaxy, he'd remembered about a massive, temporal entity known as the Great Clock. Alister began to believe that he could use the Great Clock to go back in time and undo his error, stopping Tachyon and saving the Lombaxes all in one swoop. He became obsessed with this, and nearly had a way in - until a new stranger appeared in the Polaris Galaxy: Dr. Nefarious.

Nefarious, along with Lord Vorselon, had taken the Breegus Sector as their own within just two years. Hearing about Nefarious' plot to also use the Great Clock, Alister set out to stand up against his efforts, making himself into a nuisance for the good Doctor, and often sabotaging his plans. This was not without its faults, and seemingly worsened his reputation in the galaxy. He was often captured by Vorselon, undergoing periodical torture, and escaping just to be hounded by the rest of the galaxy's residents for being a menace. This continued on, over and over, until another Lombax finally showed up in the Polaris Galaxy once again.

At first, he hadn't believed it. Upon gathering information, Ratchet had uncovered Alister's location, approaching him only to be attacked in return. Alister accused the other Lombax of being a mercenary in disguise, running off and refusing to listen to reason. Eventually, he'd come to his senses and realized Ratchet was actually Kaden's son, someone he'd assumed was lost in Tachyon's raids years ago. Ratchet explained his plight, and Alister saw this as a way to finally gain access to the Great Clock, so he tagged along.

When Ratchet and Clank reunited, Clank had explained the dangers of using the Great Clock in such a manner, and Ratchet was more hesitant to assist. Frustrated and hurt that he had been told that all of his planning was for nothing, that it was 'too much of a risk', Alister abandoned Ratchet for a time, hiding out in an undisclosed location.

Ratchet eventually faced off with Nefarious anyway, defeating him but becoming trapped on a ship heading straight for the spacestation itself. Alister reappeared at this point, rescuing the two, and they all finally wound up at the Clock itself. Here, Clank would promise to remain as a guardian of the Clock, though leaving it be and letting things settle down.

Alister wasn't having any of that.

In retaliation to Ratchet's second refusal to go along with his plan, Alister acted on impulse this time, firing off an energy blast in an attempt to kill Ratchet and use the Clock's chamber anyway. While the attack itself failed, Alister had arrived at the Orvus Chamber first, activating the Clock and squaring off with Ratchet and Clank as he bide his time. Energy began building up in the chamber, beginning to backfire on itself, but he'd remained oblivious to it all... up to a point.

It was clear now that the Clock could not handle the strain.

His plan was failing, and the universe was slowly starting to come apart at the seams. So, Alister did the only thing he could do - replaced the main switch with his own Omniwrench, pushing it back and reversing the effect. With this, the built-up energy came crashing back down on Alister himself, effectively ending his life.

Abilities/Additional Notes: Alister was once the General of the Lombax Praetorian Guard, so combat just comes naturally. And even with his years of solitude, he hasn't allowed himself to slow down in the slightest.

Combined with the natural Lombax agility, Alister can leap giant chasms without breaking a sweat, swiftly dodge enemy fire, and easily take out an armoured tank all on his own. And while he does focus on pure brute strength, Alister also has the assistance of the Praetorian Omniwrench, capable of firing off enormous bursts of energy, and his arsenal of mines and bombs.

There are times, however, when Alister will think more with actions rather than his head.

He will act on sheer impulse, which could be helpful in the field, but also extremely deadly. If pushed enough, he could turn on the very people fighting by his side, making him mentally and emotionally unstable. Fight with him, but take caution.

You could be on the receiving end of that deadly wrench.

Sample Journal Post: [This technology was so... primitive, so rustic.

He didn't think it would pick up any type of signal, but today in itself seemed determined to surprise him at every term. The Lombax coughs, white fur already caked with blood and dirt, struggling to figure out the simplistic device in his hands. It takes a moment before he realizes it's on, and the relief is almost audible.]

If there is any intelligent life in this dump, report in. Are there any survivors at all?

[Survivors of what, was the question. What at all had happened here?]

Report! This is General Alister Azimuth of the Lombax Praetorian Guard - is there anyone here?

[That relief isn't lasting long at all, if he's just going to keep getting static in return. Just how badly had he messed up? The Clock should have been fixed!

He swallows hard, his voice low.]

I'm... so sorry.

Sample RP: He was used to surviving on his own. It was what molded him into who he was today. And usually, he could manage.

Usually.

This was different. A new city, a new dimension. Somehow, his memory leapt from bright lights and darkness, to waking on a cold, ruined ground and meeting two pairs of six hungry eyes looming down. A second later, and the creature pounced, but not before instinct kicked in and he was already grabbing it, cramming a bomb down those snapping jaws before scrambling away from the unknown beast. The weapon served its purpose within seconds, attracting the attention of three more in the process.

"An ambush? Why, you barely even know me."

The old General scowled, finally scrambling to his feet and reaching for his wrench, only to grasp at nothing but air when he'd reached the holster on his back. Swearing to himself with the faintest memory of having left it behind at the Clock, he knew he had to improvise or he would wind up dead. Again. Wouldn't that be something?

"At this point, it's just going to go on until I reach purgator-- ah!"

--there! A few scattered tanks, fuel to... something. Fuel was flammable, and he had a few bombs left.

It all happened at once.

A shift of the foot, a collective screech from the group of insectoid beasts, and they all charged as one, coming down on the Lombax. The bomb was flung and he ran, as fast as he could manage, diving into a pile of debris and watching the sight of fire and black blood scattering over the block. Once he was certain it was clear, the Lombax rose from his position, taking in the sight of the corpses... and everything else.

"I'm not finished yet, am I?"
